The first Good Shepherd’s House was established in the autumn of 2018 with the help of Loving by Giving, a partner in the UK. The house was home to 10 young orphans. The young people who settled into the house entered in full-time education, some in primary and others in secondary. These young people have since moved on and gone on to other training.
In 2022 The Good Shepherd's house relocated to a village on the side of Mount Meru and can accommodate 10 youngsters. The focus is now on children between the ages of 2 and 10 years of age. The first cohort has arrived and were home-schooled for the latter part of 2022 before starting school in Jan 2023. The house accommodates house-parents and others who will help them grow and develop, enabling them to have a number of choices going forward. Around the building, there is space to plant crops and house chickens. The youngsters will be encouraged to learn life enhancing skills as well as grow in their Christian faith. The Bible says: "For I know the plans I have for you … plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future' (Jer. 29:11). It is our desire to impart God’s plan of destiny to the children, and invest in their lives. It's part of our vision to see children grow and mature in all of their God-given gifts. |
